Fort Wilkins Historic State Park
Description
At the very tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula in Copper Harbor, Fort Wilkins is one of the few remaining intact wooden forts east of the Mississippi River. Built in 1844 to keep peace during the copper rush, 19 original and restored buildings tell the story of frontier military life. The park also provides access to stunning Lake Fanny Hooe, the 1866 Copper Harbor Lighthouse, and the surrounding Keweenaw wilderness.
