Kitch-iti-kipi (The Big Spring)

Michigan’s largest freshwater spring, located in Palms Book State Park about 12 miles northwest of Manistique. More than 10,000 gallons of crystal-clear, 45-degree water bubble up through the limestone every minute, giving the pool an otherworldly turquoise glow. A hand-operated observation raft lets you glide over the spring and look straight down to the sandy bottom. Admission requires a Michigan Recreation Passport. Open late April through November.
